Chittagong-- (UNB) - Food Department would have to pay compensation US $ 8,000 as unloading of wheat from a foreign ship at Silo Jetty here remained suspended for 35 hours. Bangladesh Master Stevedores Association (BMSA) stopped unloading of 25,000 tons of wheat from a French-ship MV Mirandi that anchored at the outer anchorage on January 26. The association was demanding an increase of 35 percent unloading-charge. Although the ship freighted with wheat of the World Food Programme (WFP) anchored at the Silo Jetty on Sunday, unloading of wheat remained suspended for last 35 hours. BMSA withdrew their programmes yesterday following a meeting between the Food Department and the Chittagong Port Authorities. |
